When a release sounds to my ears like a genre-bender i tend to give it some extra importance since i can't help avoiding the search for innovation. Diego Mongelos first appeared as a Dj- novice producer in these forums, adding many interesting mixes and some early tracks for feedback. Apparently, feedback in here works wonders because ,since those early days (not so long ago), Diego's sound has progressed a lot. His work has been noticed by quite a few labels and all the top jocks in his country, Argentina. Cattaneo among others has shown his liking for "mighty crunch" adding some amount of hype ( somewhat necessary in today's digital music market) to this release. A release that just got out on the 26th of December just in time for X-mas period. The label is none other than Bit Rec (Mexico) which has an incredibly long back-catalogue for a relatively new digital record label. The original was first sent to me by Diego a while back for some early feedback and was quite surprised by the quality of the sound and the structural build-up. It's a 9 minutes track which could be considered as a rare bird nowadays when most electronic releases tend to last 4-6 minutes tops. It hits it off with a heavy baseline and a very strong kick-drum, simplistic hi hats (yet very subtle and refreshing) and it just chugs along rising up to a melodic atmospheric breakdown. The rhythm is quite monotone at times, but it makes sense somehow, it doesn't seem to bore. Nice percussive cut-offs and a prog/techno style build-up in what you might call a minimal background. Just around 4 minutes, it seems like something is missing but then again a few seconds later comes a rhythmical drop and the track regains some depth and trademark European minimalistic melodies make their way into the melting pot. Once again, the breakdown is extremely groovy and eventually i could sum it up by saying that this track has got character and could fit any 4 - 5 a.m. set in great fashion. The "audio vicious dub" is a different story. It starts off with lots of clapping sounds and dark twisted pads. It's a creepy remix that would fit well in any given dark moment. It has got a dark/tribal feel to it. This release seems to be a doubel A-side as one might have called back in the day. Lots of atmospheres and twisted FX appear throughout and overall this remix has got quality features, therefore cannot be dismissed at least without a personal opinion. It all comes down to personal taste after all. I'm pleased to see
that members of the PH community are starting to transform their creativity
into artistic results. This is a more than decent effort and i m sure
both remixes (I have a penchant for the original to be honest) will
find their way in many boxsets around the globe. The original has got
crossover potential written allover it and the "audio vicious dub"
is sure to arouse interest in dark smokey clubs. 27.DEC.07 - DJ Aurelius Scott / www.progressivehouse.com
